I love meeting people where they are and beginning a conversation by exploring what is most important to you – then working from there to create an approach that will be most meaningful to you. If you are seeking this type of caring acceptance, I welcome the opportunity to join you on your journey.

I have extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families and I’m comfortable working with all ages of adults, as well as young adults.  I bring a wide range of emotional adaptability (from seriousness to light-heartedness), all brought into the connection with lots of great listening and genuine care.  Some of my specialties include: stress/anxiety, coping with life changes, communication issues, compassion fatigue, life purpose, self-esteem, career navigation, attachment/relationships, family dynamics, parenting, caring for aging parents, and more.  I myself am a Christian and I love working with people of all spiritual orientations.

My favorite childhood pet was a Yorkie (dog) named Boomer.

My favorite food to eat is spaghetti with meat sauce (chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream is a close second).

My favorite movie series is Pirates of the Caribbean (although truthfully, I would have been OK if it had been just the first 2 movies).

A fun fact about my family is that my wife and I have twins (a boy and a girl).

Early in my college years, I thought I wanted to be a radio DJ – because of my love for music and the enjoyment I receive from playing music for other people.

I look forward to learning more about you and what is important to you.

I have been a practicing therapist since getting my master’s degree from Trinity International University in 1996. I have a focus on anxiety, trauma, grief and loss in adults, couples and adolescents. Since 2016, I have been certified in EMDR to treat traumatic experiences and bring healing to my clients. I also have a particular interest in helping families with the challenges and struggles that come having a child with a disabilities. I believe we are all designed for relationship and I want to help clients locate and extinguish barriers that prevent healing and closeness with others.

If I hadn’t chosen to be a therapist I could see myself as a nurse or studying interior design. I really enjoy decorating and trying to make beauty appear in a warm setting.

One of my all-time favorite movies is Dead Poet’s Society.

I also love laughing with friends and funny dog and cat videos.

Definitely enjoy delicious pizza too!

Hi, I’m Rick. I’m so glad you found your way here. Let me tell you a bit about myself. I’ve had a lot of different experiences in life. I started with a 20+ career in IT, then entered into vocational ministry in 2002 and served as a pastor at a local church for 15 years. I felt God’s call to transition my ministry into full-time mental health counseling. I’ve been privileged to see God’s life-changing transformation taking place in the lives of my clients. I received my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Trinity International University. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, families, and those struggling with addictions. I have a special place in my heart for pastoral, adoptive, foster, and blended families, as well as those raising children with special needs. I am licensed in both Illinois and Wisconsin. I’d consider it a privilege to walk with you toward hope and healing.

My favorite sports team…The Bears. Yes, I’m long suffering. I charge double for Green Bay fans 😃.

A place on my travel bucket list…I’d love to go back to Ireland. I was there as a child and remember the greenest grass and bluest water. I want to go back!

My favorite movie…Independence Day. Aliens against the world, good versus evil, great action scenes, and redemption of those lost and broken – what more could you ask for?

My favorite food to make…is a phone call. I am not a great cook but I can order out with the best of them!

What makes me laugh the most…My wife has the best sense of humor. She has a knack for saying something hysterical while I’m drinking something. She’s still my girl after all these years.

I have been practicing counseling since 2019. I graduated with my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University.  I enjoy helping adults across the lifespan with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, boundaries, anger, communication,  grief, pornography addiction, men’s and women’s issues, and life transitions. I also enjoy providing Christian Counseling.

I enjoy meeting clients where they are at in a nonjudgmental, encouraging environment. I enjoy helping clients identify behaviors and beliefs that they have learned in their lives that may no longer be serving them. I prefer to look at things holistically to help clients achieve positive change. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with a person-centered style and I am passionate about teaching clients new skills from other theoretical orientations.  I enjoy going deep with clients, helping them unpack their stories, heal through past wounds, as well as developing greater insight to become more of the person that God has always intended them to be.

I have always been passionate about people and helping them to be their best self! Whether sitting at a coffee shop and listening to people share their life story, singing karaoke at a family gathering (and yes, sometimes looking foolish) or comforting a friend who is dealing with an unexpected curve ball in life, I always try to bring encouragement and hope to those around me. I feel the most important thing in life is building relationships and making memories. That is something no one can ever take away from us.

I am also an avid pet lover! You name it, I have probably had it! Dogs are my pet of choice now a days and feel no home is complete without one! They love unconditionally, are excited when you get home and happy to just curl up at your feet or in your lap. They have the magical ability to bring a smile to your face. Especially the Senior community, which I am passionate about!

One of my favorite parts of these life stages we all go through has been raising my four children. I am a nurturer by nature and loved teaching, training, and pouring into their little minds!! They are naturally curious and just soak up everything around them. Which is why they need love, encouragement, boundaries, and stability. Something I feel we can all benefit from no matter what age we are.

My Favorite job (before this one 😊), was working as an Executive Assistant to an Executive Pastor for many years. In that role I saw and experienced real life happening with people of all ages and diversity.  It stretched and grew me into the person I am today and gave me ministry and business experience that I use in all aspects of my life.

I firmly believe in the transformative power of genuine human connection. What a privilege it is for me to provide safe and nonjudgmental space where my clients can be truly heard, respected, and accepted! It is my commitment to help them gain fresh perspectives, foster positive changes, and lead more enriched lives. My ability to communicate in both English and Mandarin (中文) enables me to serve a diverse clientele effectively.

I came from China to America to pursue advanced education. Before embarking on my journey in mental health counseling, I spent over two decades in the corporate world, holding various positions as a CPA and CISA. This valuable experience allowed me to understand the challenges of balancing a demanding career with family life, as I raised three children, each now in different stages of adolescence and adulthood./p>

I started my journey in higher education working in college admission counseling for six years, and was passionate in helping students in the transition to college. During that time, I grew a passion for helping families and students manage their mental health struggles that came along with making decisions for the future.

Because of this, I decided to complete my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Concordia University Chicago to further support the communities I was involved in.

I now specializes in working across the lifespan, and have experience with young adults, adolescents, adults, couples and families. I have experience in treating depression, anxiety, postpartum issues, marital work and grief counseling. I am trained in suicide assessment and intervention and grounded in cognitive behavioral techniques.

I am driven to help others achieve wellness and mental health through teaching positive coping skills and empowerment. I am fluent in Spanish and am very comfortable working in multicultural settings or with families with diverse backgrounds.

I could talk for hours about:  books, scripture, old musicals/movies, my children, and of course your life 😀.

Favorite Music:  All types! But specifically those that allow me to sing along (loudly).

Have been known to wear shirts featuring Taco puns such as “If you don’t like tacos, I’m nacho type”…I guarantee that Taco Bell will come up in at least one of our sessions. No, seriously, I love tacos.

I grew up in beautiful So. Cal so I would almost always rather be sitting by the ocean (but I will almost never be tan).

I met my husband while on an overseas semester and we’ve had many more adventures together in our 20+ year marriage!
